For me a generation gap is about 13 years. And this is because way back around 91-92 India changed. We liberalised our economy, Cable TV came in, Multinationals(mostly American) set up shop, the seeds of the IT boom were being sown, et al. All this started changing the way we were thinking. It was as if someone had taken off a blindfold that was over our eyes. Kids of 12 -13 cannot remember a time when there was no cable TV, when the only cars they saw on our roads were the old Ambassadors...

An interesting article about what copyright really stands for and if we are actually allowed to link to other articles on the usenet/internet, freely use stuff on the net just thinking that it's free to use because it's out there, etc. Here it is. Link

This article Link caught my attention today morning. It spoke of a military parade where Iran showed off its range of ballistic missiles , with the rockets draped in banners vowing to "crush America" and "wipe Israel off the map". And all this with the talk of the Israelis saying that the Iranians could have at least 5 nuclear warheads by 2007. With the current Iranian decision to continue with uranium enrichment and consequent inspection delaying tactics, this could well be true. Wh...

I have always loved watching Hollywood films. Here in India, we do not call them 'Hollywood' movies, we just call them 'English' movies. And, there is somethinhg in them that perplexes me. Why do most Hollywood films(the blockbusters at least) HAVE to have an African American (read, black) character tagged along with the main caucasian(read, white) character? This can also happen the other way around with the main character being black and his friend/assistant being white. Eddie Murphy alw...

How do I react when someone harms me. Do I forgive him or do I go for Revenge? The Christian path would be one of forgiveness and turning the other cheek to the oppressor. But when Lao Tzu taught that one should repay hostility with good deeds, Confucius answered: " With what then shall we reward good deeds? No, reward hostility with justice, and good deeds with good deeds. " Often someone harms you and gets away with it just because you say-"Forget it now, let bygones be bygones"....

http://www.googlism.com/ Googlism.com will find out what Google.com thinks of you, your friends or anything. It basically looks out for occurences of your keyword (say, your name) and displays the first line of all places on the WWW where it was found. Quite amusing at times, too. Go ahead. Have fun.

Here in India we are riding on the high wave of the outsourcing boom. And yes, there certainly does seem to be a boom. I was in Bangalore a year back before relocating to Bombay. I used to pay Indian Rs. 7000 per month ( USD 155) for a 2 bedroom apartment and last month when I visited bangalore the rents for such an apartment was touching IR 9000 (USD 200). When I asked why, the estate agent said that a lot more people in bangalore were making more money because a lot of US( and British...

I am thinking out aloud here. All the major organised religions believe in the concept of Heaven and Hell. Of course versions of Heaven vary with Christians believing that he/she who reaches heaven will be one with God. The Muslims have their sex with 42 black-eyed virgins, rivers of milk and honey and stuff like that , but then I believe that will also be fun. But then, isn't God supposed to be an all forgiving divine power? Why should there be a Hell at all, given to believe that he...

The Americans are again getting bogged down in Najaf where Moqtada Sadr's men seem to be putting up a stiff fight. We are seeing the repeat of the same story that unfolded in April/May when the Mehdi Army went on a rampage against them. Sadr and his men play it safe by hiding around the safety of Imam Ali's shrine knowing fully well that the Americans will not storm the shrine fearful of world opinion. This is where the US loses out. America must realsi that these fighters whom they fight ...

Oh a post after many months now. A record? Is it? Anyway what's been happening in between now and my last post. Nothing much except for the fact that 1. I topped Madras University (I.D.E.) - 1st Rank for B.A. History 1st year. 2. I will be a father coming January. 3. No fun in Bombay and am looking toward moving to Bangalore. 4. Sona left for Qatar. 5. Manju has joined me here and am bootstrapping him. 6. Balaji left to join IBM, B'lore and is now in North Carolina. ...

Yes, the Pepper Chicken did turn out well. Now what did I do-I ground the ginger, garlic, cashew(put cashew in at the wrong time, though), cut onions and tomatoes, fried them and cooked the chicken. But Smitha and me thought that we should have added some more pepper. Maybe the pepper we put in was not REAL pepper-conspiracy theory. Anyway nothing else here at work..we spoke with Scott yesterday and RCI work will be in May 2nd week. Scott though is hoping Balaji can run the show in my ab...

Well, today passed off uneventfully as all the other days over the past month. Of course Adithan is no longer with the team here. I and Balaji (poor fellow) are still hanging around. I come down to the office around noon nowaday and browse till lunch at 2. I've literally become a walking news junkie. From falluja to Gush Katif, Sonia Gandhi to Richard Desmond ask me I'll tell. Rockwell Collins verification starts around May 2nd week. I have started preps for the B .A. papers too. Need ...

Think of Palestine and you do not conjure up images of the Holy Land, or of olive trees by shimmering brooks or even of the late Dr. Edward Said....but the images that come to our mind are that of masked men welding submachine guns and veiled women chanting 'Death to USA', 'Death to Israel'.... And this is precisely why the Palestinians will never have a state of their own. They still think that the Jewish people will somehow tire of seeing so many dead men, women and children amongst them an...

I'm not sure how many of you there are keeping tabs on this, but the Indian Prime Minister is in Pakistan from today to attend the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation). Pakistan was formed in 1947 when Colonial India was partitioned(overseen by the British) into secular India and an Islamic Pakistan. It was largely the congress (under Gandhi) who fought for Indian Independence. The British played the ancient game of 'Divide & Rule' by playing of sections of Islamists agai...
