India turned a blind eye to Pakistan when the whole world knew that they were begging, borrowing and stealing nuclear weapon technology in the 80s. A major reason for the Indian inaction was that in the cold war drama, Pakistan was the USA's best friend. Only later would the US learn that it was only feeding milk to a poisonous serpent.
If India had mustered the courage to take out Pakistani nuclear reactors when they were being built, Pakistan would not have a nuclear bomb today and menace India psychologically every other day. Add Iran to the list of Islamic nuclear states and I see our problems only getting worser.
America has a small window of opportunity now before Iran acquires the same capability. And the Iranians are confident and know what they want very well. It is the destruction of Israel and the end of the western(the Iranians read it as christian) cultural and political supremacy. Iran is ready to wait it out and tire out the Israelis and Americans. They are confident that Israel is only a temporary nation in what they claim is only their land just like the 'temporary' crusader states in the levant in the middle ages were before Saladin wipen them out.
I was reading today that Ms. Condoleeza Rice is banking upon the UN to do something here but then she does not understand that just as her country could 'enable' the UN to declare war on Iraq, the Iranian sympathisers in the UN namely Russia, France and China will see to it that nothing comes out the move.
In the great Indian war-epic 'Mahabharata' written about 3000 years ago, one of the greatest heroes was killed by a ploy. This character called Bhishma was too righteous and would not harm an eunuch in war as an eunuch was not a man. So Bhishma's enemies put an eunuch named Shikhandi against Bhishma. And Bhishma died from an arrow shot fired by Shikhandi's bow. Bhishma refused to even lift his weapon to fight back.
This is what the foes of the US want. They do not have the courage to oppose the US directly because they are not strong enough for it. However they will seek pleasure in raising up an nuclear Iran to do that job for them.
America should not fall into the UN trap. It should take out the Iranian capability now. America went to war against Iraq to seek out the 'so-called' weapons of mass destruction which to be honest, haven't been found till date. The Iranians are openly flaunting their intentions and the Americans sit silent. Why?
